Back to America's Youth at Ferry Farm

June 03, 2017

Amid the rancor and partisanship of 21st-century American politics, we love to take time to remember the shared history of everyone in this great country by visiting the many historical sites within driving distance of our Fredericksburg hotel. Less than ten minutes away, you’ll find the boyhood home of the man who first led the intrepid citizens of a young nation. George Washington was only 6-years-old when he and his family arrived at Home Farm in 1738. Known today as Ferry Farm because of the ferry that linked it to Fredericksburg across the Rappahannock River, Washington’s boyhood stomping grounds now serve as a visitor’s center and museum. You’ll see various colonial and Civil War artifacts originally discovered at the farm. In addition, you can enjoy the lush gardens and hiking trails that span eighty acres of preserved land. If you happen to bring an iPad, you can take advantage of the interactive tour as well.

Address: Ferry Farm, 268 Kings Highway, Fredericksburg, VA 22405
